Sims 4: Businesses & Hobbies Gameplay Details

A written breakdown of everything showcased in the Businesses & Hobbies gameplay trailer was outlined via an official EA news post. In this post, Sims enthusiasts get a more in-depth explainer regarding Hobbies such as Tattooing and Pottery, the town of Nordhaven, and how running a small business will operate in-game.

Key points have been referenced below.

Tattoos Hobby

  • Sims can master the Tattooing skill, offering pre-made, custom, or dedicated tattoos to others.
  • Create an endless variety of custom tattoos in Tattoo Paint Mode.
  • Share custom designs through the Gallery or browse others’ tattoos.
  • As Sims level up, they unlock stamps, stencils, and the ability to touch up tattoos for better results.
  • Tattoos can now be layered, allowing multiple tattoos on the same body part.

Pottery Hobby

  • Use the Pottery Wheel to craft decorative and functional pieces like tea sets, vases, and incense burners.
  • Glaze pottery with various colours or leave it unglazed before firing it in the Pottery Kiln.
  • Higher skill levels unlock the Japanese art of Kintsugi to repair and beautify broken ceramics.
  • Finished pottery can be sold, gifted, or used for decoration.

The Town of Nordhaven

  • Nordhaven hosts Hobby Meetups, where Sims can socialize and find mentors to speed up skill development.
  • Skilled Sims can mentor others and teach classes or lectures.
  • Listening to lectures or teaching classes helps Sims earn Mastery Perks and allows businesses to monetize skills.
  • Classes have goals, and failing to meet the goal results in no payment for attendees.

Small Businesses

  • Sims can open small businesses, such as pottery, tattoos, or classes, on residential lots or dedicated Small Business Venues.
  • The Ticket Kiosk lets Sims charge customers a one-time or hourly fee.
  • Players can run family businesses or hire employees to manage tasks and salaries.
  • Business owners can customize their shops, offering unique experiences, like live music during tattoo sessions.
  • Sims can choose between the Firestarter or Dreamer perks to shape their business’s success and life outside the workplace, impacting both their professional and personal lives.
