The Sims 1 and 2 rereleases confirmed as purchase buttons temporarily go live

After some speculation, rumour and everything in between, EA has finally confirmed that the Sims 1 and 2 rereleases are, in fact, a thing. Well, they had temporarily at least. Two buttons to buy both games were briefly available over on the official site. However, they were swiftly taken down, after likely going live before intended. Still, we can expect both to arrive on January 31st.

The Sims 1 and 2 rereleases promise nostalgia in spades

For now, they’ve been replaced with a link to The Sims Y2K site. Going there provides some nostalgic pangs for those of us who grew up playing these two classics. There you can Sim Urself, listen to old-school sound effects in Simsboard or even download some desktop wallpapers if you’re so inclined. It might help hold back the impatience building up inside us all as we wait for the rereleases to drop.

Now, back to the topic at hand. In EA’s messaging, the rereleases were referred to as Legacy Collections, which begs the question, what’s included? Well, if the leaks are to be believed, The Sims 1 will include The Sims Livin’ Large, The Sims House Party, The Sims Hot Date, The Sims Vacation, The Sims Unleashed, The Sims Superstar, and The Sims Makin’ Magic. Meanwhile, the Sims 2 will bring eight expansion and nine stuff packs.

As for when we can get our hands on The Sims 1 and 2, the release date is January 31st. But, don’t worry about staying up until midnight or anything like that. The rereleases will become available at 11 am ET or 8 am PT. They’re coming to the EA App, Steam, and the Epic Game Store, so most PC preferences are accounted for. The only thing we don’t know at the minute is how much it’s going to cost, but given that it’s payday for most of us, I can’t see that proving much of a barrier.

If playing these older gems doesn’t appeal to you, why not check out the latest Creator Kits to hit The Sims 4?
