When it comes to average suburban life one of the worst nightmares that plagues most is the idea of being burgled. Having your hard-won amenities, valuables and family heirlooms nicked by some no-good criminal can be terrible at best. Fortunately (for some), in The Sims 4 you haven’t had to worry about this mundane but terrible event…until now, because Burglars are finally coming to The Sims 4!

That’s according to a recent post on The Sims official socials, which uses the same eyes-looking emoji that has been being teased since The Sims 25th Anniversary Updates were first teased. Add to this that the background images for the current ‘Motherlode Season’ had references to crime on it, and it turns out that we’ve had more than a few clues that this was coming.
Yes, it’s been a long time coming, being that it was included at launch for the previous main entries, but now you’ll officially want to lock up your valuables and ready your home-security system. So let’s dig in and find out what threat these fiendish thieves may pose.
Neighbourhood Watch (out)
For those not in the know, a Burglar is- well, it’s what it says on the tin. These sneaky Sims will invade your Sims’ lot and creep into their home before attempting to nick valuable objects. That means your most prized possessions can be in danger, unless you manage to catch the thief in time.
In previous Sims releases your main means of fending off Burglars was either by calling the police or letting them trip a Burglar Alarm. Either way you collected a neat bounty for your help once the police arrive and apprehend the ne’er-do-well. But there wasn’t anything you could actually do to prevent their arrival, something that would be a welcome change in this newest iteration.
Home Security Measures
While the fact that Burglars are coming to The Sims 4 may not be a hugely requested feature – amongst the other additions being made for The Sims 25th anniversary to the its fourth instalment this is still a welcome bonus. Burglars add a little extra element of excitement to proceedings, and the fact that they can even get away with your Sims’ hard-earned possessions should encourage you to beef up your home, business or home-business’ security ASAP.
Right now, things are a little thin on the ground in terms of what exactly this new feature will entail – but more details are now officially coming tomorrow – 25th of February – and we’ll make sure to update you as more details land. It could be as simple as what we’ve seen in previous releases: a Burglar, home alarm system and maybe even the integration of the police too.
Of course it could even be bigger than that…maybe you’ll get the chance to turn your house into a laser tripwire-infested security complex worthy of Fort Knox? We’ll just have to wait and see.
