Create-a-Sim and Build/Buy Mode are as much a part of The Sims’ gameplay as Live Mode is, and the best way of keeping it fresh is with new features and items. And of course, EA is no stranger to pumping out additional DLC, with The Sims 4 being no exception to this. Creator Kits are one of the more fun and interesting add-ons, though, as they wouldn’t exist without the contribution of The Sims 4’s amazingly creative community.
What are Creator Kits?
Creator Kits are bundles of items made in collaboration with Custom Content creators. They’re organised around a particular theme and can have cool clothes to deck your Sim out with or fun new decor items for dressing up your builds. They roll in at around a fiver, making them a nice little payday treat (maybe moreso for your Sims than for you, though).
What’s the difference between Creator Kits and other Kits?
All Creator Kits are Kits, but not all Kits are Creator Kits. Every Kit is a set of new items, but only Creator Kits are made with community members who make Custom Content. For example, the Sleek Bathroom Kit was created with Syboulette, who’s well-known for making Custom Content on The Sims Resource as Syboubou. Custom Content creators make new items for The Sims using 3D modelling software like Blender, or in some cases, image manipulation software like Photopea or GIMP.
Even more confusingly, some regular Kits do actually involve Creators – but they aren’t Custom Content creators. Instead, they’re Twitch streamers and YouTubers like LilSimsie, who worked closely on the Comfy Gamer Kit. The difference here is that although Simsie worked closely on the Kit as a consultant, she didn’t make the items herself. So, this is a Kit, not a Creator Kit, even though it was made with a content creator. Don’t worry, it took me a while to wrap my head around it, too.
